The simmering agitation under the banner of newly set-up Sardar Samman Sankalp Samiti demanding restoring the name of Motera stadium in Ahmedabad after Sardar Patel seems to have got a fillip as activists from Kheda district on Wednesday sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed in blood.
The world’s largest stadium was rechristened Narendra Modi Stadium on February 24, 2021.
Eleven people from 11 various castes from Sardar Patel’s home district of Kheda have dashed off a protest letter in blood. The letter, a copy of which is with Vibes of India, states that “Sardar Patel had integrated 562 princely states with the Indian Union. And renaming a stadium after Sardar Patel to Narendra Modi stadium is Sardar’s insult.”
The letter demanded that Sardar Patel’s name should be restored. The signatories include Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Atul Patel, Bhagwat Parmar, Babubhai Solanki, Mangalbhai Makwana, Natubhai Chauhan, Ghanshyam Makwana, Amanullah Khan V Pathan, Bharat Parmar, Mustufa Malek, Kalpesh Barot and Taufiqbhai.
Atul Patel told Vibes of India, “The letter was only a symbolic protest. We will resort to a huge agitation if the stadium is not renamed after Sardar Vallbhbhai Patel.”
