Pune City Police Arrests 19-Year-Old Gujarati Boy for Cybercrime

| Updated: March 25, 2024 19:00

The Pune City Police have apprehended a 19-year-old student from Gujarat on charges of disseminating explicit videos of a minor girl via social media platforms.

The victim, a 16-year-old girl, filed the First Information Report (FIR) at a local police station last Sunday. According to the FIR, the accused initiated contact with the victim through Snapchat in July 2023, and their conversation later extended to Instagram.

The victim’s complaint states that the accused coerced her into sending explicit videos and photographs by threatening to publicize their private conversations on social media. Despite her compliance, the accused continued to demand more such content.

The victim eventually ceased communication with the accused. However, he proceeded to distribute the explicit content among her acquaintances, prompting her to seek assistance from the police.

Following a technical investigation, the police identified and summoned the accused to Pune for further inquiry. “Upon verifying the victim’s complaint, we arrested the accused, who is a student from Gujarat. The investigation is ongoing,” stated the investigating police inspector.

The accused has been charged under sections 507 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, according to the police.
