The Health Department of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has swiftly addressed a recent incident involving the food delivery app Zomato and the restaurant Mumbai Zaika. A customer, Gaurav Singh, ordered Hyderabadi Veg Dum Biryani and Veg Kebabs via the Zomato app from Mumbai Zaika near the racecourse. However, he received non-vegetarian food containing meat and mutton, leading to a viral video of the incident.
Discrepancy Between the Restaurant and the App
The Zomato manager attributed the error to the restaurant’s dual menu (offering veg and non-veg items), but the restaurant owner contradicted this claim. According to the owner, Mumbai Zaika exclusively serves non-vegetarian food. Investigation revealed that despite the restaurant’s specialization, the app displayed vegetarian items, resulting in the mix-up.
Civic Body Takes Action
In response, the Rajkot civic body issued a notice to the food business operator and summoned both the business owner and the Zomato manager. The Health Department secured a letter of apology and obligation from the food business operator to rectify the mistake.
