Former One Direction member, Zayn Malik has joined forces with the rising Pakistani group AUR to reimagine their hit single, “Tu Hai Kahan.” Malik lends his voice to the track, singing in Urdu, and a music video has been released showcasing Malik’s creative process in his home studio.
“I was incredibly humbled when AUR reached out and asked me to collaborate on their song ‘Tu Hai Kahan,’” Malik shared in a statement. “I love the song and have brought some of myself to it. I hope people love what we’ve done.”
AUR, consisting of band members Ahad, Usama, and Raffey, expressed their excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are super excited for this collaboration as it shows that music has no boundaries. ‘Tu Hai Kahan’ is such a special song to us, and it’s hard to describe how amazed we were when we first heard Zayn’s voice on the track. We’re taking Pakistani music global, and we can’t wait for the world to vibe to our music.”
“Tu Hai Kahan” originally debuted last year and quickly climbed to No. 1 on several South Asian charts, including Spotify India and Pakistan.
Last summer marked the beginning of a new musical era for Malik with the release of “Love Like This.” Malik also appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper to discuss his return to music and his time in One Direction.
“I’m doing a record I don’t think people are really gonna expect. It’s a different sound for me,” he revealed. “And it’s got some more narrative going on, like real-life experiences and stuff. My daughter’s mentioned in there a couple of times.”
Malik’s musical journey began with his critically acclaimed debut album, Mind of Mine, in 2016, featuring hit singles “Pillowtalk” and “Befour.” He continued to make waves in the music industry with the release of Icarus Falls in 2018 and Nobody Is Listening in 2021. Malik has also contributed original songs to the animated film 10 Lives, set to premiere at Sundance this month.
