On Monday, the police announced that they had initiated a probe after a social media video went viral showing a youth attempting to drive out a group of men and women from a Ganga Ghat in Haridwar because they were not Hindu.
The video allegedly depicts an incident that happened at Haridwar’s well-known Maharaja Agrasen Ghat. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, circle officer Juhi Manral has asked to look into it, an official stated. The police took immediate actions after the video surfaced online.
Swatantra Kumar, the city’s chief of police, stated that details about the incident were being gathered and that efforts were being made to identify the young people and the group of persons involved. He stated that upon the conclusion of the probe, appropriate action would be taken.
The young man can be heard declaring that only Hindus are permitted to visit the Ganga Ghats in the footage, which appears to show him threatening the other community members.
The group’s young men and women can be seen debating the youth. He learns from one of them that he has a car and operates it around Har Ki Pauri. The teenagers, however, wouldn’t budge and kept requesting that they vacate the ghat grounds.
