Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday posted on his social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that usage on the platform has reached an “all-time high” on July 15.
“X usage hit another all-time high yesterday with 417 billion user-seconds globally! In the US, user-seconds reached 93 billion, 23 per cent higher than the previous record of 76 billion. In a single day,” he wrote.
Social media accounts linked to X had published a number of posts earlier in March that included figures to “prove” that “X is indispensable.”
“250 million people use X every day. 550 million people visit the global town square every month. On average, users spend 30 minutes a day on X. This year, the daily average of user time spent on the platform has grown by +13%. Mobile time spent is up +17% vs. the last six months,” account X Data shared.
“X has over 8 billion daily active user minutes on average so far in 2024, up 10% from last year. 1.7 million people join X every day,” it added.
For $44 billion in October 2022, Musk acquired Twitter; however, the acquisition has subsequently been deemed excessively costly, since the company’s value has almost completely dropped. Musk sacked senior executives, let go of half the company’s employees, established a content moderation panel to consider account reinstatements, and redesigned the platform’s subscription model in the days that ensued.
In addition to changing the name to X in July 2023 and doing away with the iconic blue bird, Musk has made a number of controversial changes to the company, such as deciding to reinstate suspended users.
Due to his controversial choices, the platform started to lose a significant amount of revenue from advertisements as a result of Trump’s activities. To make up for the losses, he developed Twitter Blue, a paid verification service.
In an effort to increase platform engagement, Musk declared on March 28, 2024, that X accounts with more than 2,500 verified subscriber followers would receive free access to Premium services, while accounts with more than 5,000 followers would receive free access to Premium features.
