Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, has taken cognisance of a letter from a woman judge alleging sexual harrasment at workplace. In a letter which went viral, a woman judge from Uttar Pradesh accused her senior district judge of sexually harrassing her.
Taking serious note of the accusation, the Chief Justice of India has directed directed Supreme Court Secretary General to seek a report. The Supreme Court Secretary General, Atul Kurhekar on his part has sought status report on the procedings consequent to the copmaint made by the woman judge from the the Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court.
The woman judge, posted in Banda district in Uttar Pradesh has claimed that she is distraught at being treated disrespectfully by her senior district judge. “I have been sexually harassed by one particular District Judge and his associates. I was told to meet the District Judge at night,” the judge claimed.
The woman judge alleged inaction from the Allahabad High Court even after her earlier complaint. She said that she had already complained to the Internal Complaints Committee of the High Court.
In he letter to CJI, the complainant pleaded for euthanasia. She said : “Kindly permit me to end my life in a dignified way. Let my life be: DISMISSED.” Her letter described her ordeal saying ” I have been sexually harassed to the very limit. I have been treated like utter garbage. I feel like an unwanted insect. And I hoped to provide justice to others. What naïve me!”
