The Ahmedabad Airport Police have filed a case against a woman from Mehsana for allegedly travelling abroad using a stolen and forged passport.
Officials said that the woman, identified as Kavita Patel, presented an Indian passport (P1944937) during immigration checks on August 22, 2024.
The passport, issued in Atlanta, USA, and valid until August 8, 2032, was found to match the details of Ishfaque Alam from Nawada, Bihar, who had reported his passport missing on December 20, 2021.
Authorities confiscated Patel’s passport for verification. An inquiry with the Regional Passport Office in Ahmedabad verified that passport P1944937 was originally issued to Alam.
Further investigations uncovered that Patel had travelled to the USA from Mumbai airport using her original passport (K7743539). Subsequently, she acquired the forged passport through an unidentified agent in Atlanta.
The woman has been charged under BNS Sections 336(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2), and 54. Authorities are continuing their investigation to locate the agent and validate Patel’s statements.
Although the incident took place in August 2024, the FIR was lodged on Wednesday following the receipt of official communication on the matter, according to the police.
