The cybercrime police have registered an online harassment complaint from a 23-year-old woman, a resident of Danilimda in Ahmedabad, who works as a pension manager at Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance. The accused identifies himself as IPS officer Safin Hasan on social media.
The young woman said in her complaint that she was harassed over the telephone through five different numbers. The accused, with the ID ‘Shehzadpathan’, harassed her on her Instagram and other social media accounts by posting vulgar comments. There were several indecent posts directed at her from another ID—‘IPS Dream’—and circulated among the victim’s friends with the intention of tarnishing her reputation.
The harasser—who claimed to be Gujarat’s youngest IPS officer—asked the woman to make a video call, which she refused. She received a message from an unknown number sending her Diwali greetings. Since the girl did not know the sender, she did not reciprocate. The person, however, continued to approach her despite her reluctance even after she had blocked some numbers.
Police have arrested the accused by tracking the IP address.
