Exciting news emerged from Maitri Bagh zoo on Sunday as officials announced the birth of three adorable cubs to a white tigress. The news was made public on Saturday, bringing the total number of white tigers at the zoo, located in Bhilai city approximately 35 kilometers from Raipur, to a remarkable nine.
The birth of these cubs took place on April 28, with white tigress Raksha playing the role of a proud mother. The cubs’ father is none other than the white tiger Sultan. To ensure the cubs’ well-being and proper care, they are currently being kept with their mother in a dark room under the constant supervision of veterinary experts. This allows for close monitoring of breastfeeding and other important health parameters, as explained by the zoo in charge, NK Jain.
After a four-month period of careful nurturing, the cubs will be introduced for public viewing, providing visitors with a delightful opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close. This development follows the birth of another white tiger cub named ‘Singham’ in September of last year, also sired by the renowned white tiger Sultan.
Presently, Maitri Bagh zoo is home to a total of nine white tigers, including the newly born cubs. The zoo’s rich history with these majestic animals dates back to 1997 when a pair of white tigers named Tarun and Tapsi were first relocated from the Nandan Kanan zoo in neighboring Odisha, marking a significant milestone for the facility.
The birth of these three cubs not only adds to the joy of the Maitri Bagh zoo but also contributes to the conservation efforts of the rare and endangered white tiger species. Visitors eagerly await the day they can catch a glimpse of these precious cubs, marveling at their beauty and witnessing the miracle of new life in the animal kingdom.
