Summer 2022 is officially here, folks – a season of vibrant pastels and whites. Here’s our tuppence on what your summer wear should be like. Above all, an Indian summer calls for comfort. Thus, summer clothes should be comfortable and loose, easy on the skin, to keep the body cool.
Like every year, designers seem to be keeping busy with themes being cool, a preference for white, and minimal jewellery. What is Ahmedabad’s summer fashion, this season?
Designers and stylists swear by whites and pastels, with fabric belts and beaded jewellery for both formal and casualwear to feature prominently in the 2022 summer collection.
“Monochromes based on khadi, linen, and cotton are in, along with co-ords and belts, minimal jewellery and peach makeup. To enhance the look, one can wear it with a waist belt, or bracelet stack. Flare pants, wide-leg trousers, bell bottoms are also in vogue, and these come in all different kinds of material from the big brands,” said Sejal, a city-based fashionista
In totally casual settings, these loose pants with a nice crop top and a T-shirt with sneakers and some minimal accessories work very well, Sejal adds.
“In formal settings, one can wear the same pants with a nice crisp cotton shirt or top to add some drama. Throw on a nice formal belt, court shoes, a watch with some bracelets, and a linen blazer to give yourself a more corporate look,” Sejal says. In terms of colour, one can never go wrong with lilac, pistachio green, blue, pea blue and rose pink. If ever in doubt, white is to the rescue – always.
Mudita Patel, an Ahmedabad-based designer, swears by white. “White is the new normal. As a stylist and a designer, I would believe that pastels and florals are overdone this summer and so one can now shift onto the shades of white or the lighter colours,” she says, “Fabric belts and fabric beaded jewellery is something that everyone has to have in their wardrobe now since these are skin-friendly and affordable.”
Kamaldeep Kaur, a designer and a stylist is off a vote that sarees can never go out of style, a myth that sarees are not so comfortable during summers is what she breaks by explaining that, “sarees, in fact, can be more comfortable if are of an appropriate, smooth and skin-soothing materials like organza, cotton, or muslin as well for that matter, these clothes are breathy and allow the skin to feel free. One can pair it up with a white shirt for a formal look along with some statement jewellery like a beaded chain or a simple chain.”
Sarees that are very colourful, or have a design like leheriyas then they can be paired with a simple plain T-Shirt or a funky shirt along with a funky choker just in case it is needed to add a bit of bling to the outfit. Also, a saree can nowadays be paired with denim, jackets and belts that are either of metal or fabric with beaded embellishments.
