Even before the oath taking ceremony on Monday, Visvadar’s winning AAP MLA Bhupat Bhayani, is all set to deflect to the BJP. The Sunday first half happenings are a significant precursor to a possible “Operation Lotus” underway. “I am here at Gandhinagar for some personal work,” he retirted to scribes who caught him at the entry to Kamalam on Sunday.
BJP will command the 15th Assembly of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly with a thumping 156 majority. The Congress with 17 and AAP with five will sit in the Opposition ranks.
The Visavadar Assembly constituency in Junagadh district, Saurashtra region of Gujarat went to polls on December 1. AAP’s Bhupat Bhayani defeated BJP’s Harshad Ribadia, who earlier quit the Congress. Bhupat defeated the BJP candidate by 7063 votes. Karshan Vadodaria was the Congress candidate.
Bhayani started off his political career with the BJP. Two years ago, he left the party and joined AAP. Barely on the third day of being voted to power on an AAP ticket, his ghar wapsi has taken all by surprise.
From a village sarpanch to an elected MLA, Bhayani is an old political hand on the region. Having him on their side is considered a trump card for any party. Interestingly, his win is solely on his personal charisma as a leader. Neither did any star campaigner visit his constituency nor did he address any mass gathering.
Working as a sarpanch at the grass-root level has made Bhayani a master in political strategy. He keeps in touch with the masses and hence, enjoy popular trust. In fact, the first Covid center was opened in Bhensan in Visvadar and all thanks to the active intervention of Bhayani.
Despite repeated attempts, AAP’s chief ministerial face Isudan Gadhvi and Gujarat convenor Gopal Italia, were unavailable to take calls.
