The Oscar-winning American actress and producer, Viola Davis held another flag in her name after receiving a character in the cast of ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, a prequel movie to the famous dystopian action-based film “The Hunger Games”.
According to media reports, the actress will play the charismatic role of the Head Gamemaker, Dr. Volumnia Gaul. The prequel is the latest addition of the science-fiction based trilogy of novels authored by Suzanne Collins, which is set to be released on November 17th 2023.
The film depicts the life of a youth named Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who became an oppressive President of a fictional nation called Panem. Years later, he is chosen as a mentor of a televised event, the 10th Hunger Games that features teenagers, who fight to death to win a big lottery.
The other cast members who will play against Davis include Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andres Rivera, Jerome Lance, Ashley Liao, Aamer Husain, Heoki Berrecloth, and Peter Dinkale.
“The entire team of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group (LMPG) has welcomed the joining of the Oscar-recipient Viola Davis,” said Nathan Kahane, President of LMPG.
The prequel will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who has already bagged several accolades for his direction of Franchise’s Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One and Mockingjay Part Two. The fourth release will be propelled by its producer Nina Jacobson and her partner Brad Simpson.
Jacobson praised Viola for her extraordinary acting skills that would bring emotion and intelligence into her character in shaping Coriolanus Snow into a tyrannical and autocratic ruler.
Davis has other releases in hand that are yet to be announced.
