Communal tension was witnessed in Kheda’s Matar district following reports of stone-pelting during garba in Undhera village on 3rd October at night. The police said that matters came to a head when members of two communities clashed at the garba venue. Stone-pelting and damage to vehicles was reported, but the situation was under control, the police said.
There have been instances of communal tension at a few places in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh this Navratri, with a few organisers insisting on ID proof before letting revelers in. A video of some people beating up four men at a Garba venue at Sindhu Bhawan Road in Ahmedabad has gone viral. The Gujarat Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson, Hitendrasinh Rajput, said that Bajrang Dal had prevented some members of the minority community from attending garba to “prevent love jihad”.
In Madhya Pradesh, posters were put up at a few Garba venues saying only Hindus were allowed inside, while in Rajasthan, clashes were reported in Jaipur.
