To felicitate the 43rd Vikram Sarabhai Memorial, Dr Krishna Ella delivered a lecture on Innovation and Entrepreneurship on July 30, 2022, at Ahmedabad Management Association. The tradition of Vikram Sarabhai Memorial lectures began in 1977 under Vikram A Sarabhai- AMA Memorial Trust. Many renowned figures and Nobel laureates from India and abroad have also delivered lectures here.
Dr Krishna Ella is the Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Biotech International Limited. He has worked as a research faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, after earning his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bharat Biotech’s global presence in the innovative vaccine, is largely the result of Dr Ella’s commendable leadership.
The managing director and chairman of Bharat Biotech said that imagination is the key for innovation. He further said that innovation is found in nature. There were more than 120 innovations curated during the pandemic in India. He further added that today’s overlooked diseases would be future global diseases.
He said that not only science but business also impacts the growth and development of individuals and India. He further cited names of successful men in their fields, like Mahatma Gandhi ,Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Modi, who exemplify Gujarat’s pride.
He went ahead to proudly say that India was once the most innovative country in the world. Many innovations like Zero were made in India. Canola oil in Canada which oversees a USD 64 billion business, is simply mustard oil, which was taken from India. We are somehow losing out, he says. He believes farmers need aid in Marketing, not Production.
Dr Ella received Padma Bhushan-India`s 3rd highest Civilian Award, ET Now Special Recognition for Healthcare Industry Award, JRD Tata – Best Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Marico Innovation Award and the University of Southern California – Asia-Pacific Leadership Award, Bio Spectrum Person of the Year Award, IPA Industry Excellence Award, FICCI Best Technology and Innovation Award, Prime Minister of India, Business Leader of the Year, Pharma Bio World etc.
