Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and RCP Singh resigned as Union ministers on Wednesday. According to the reports they have submitted their resignation letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier in the day, during the cabinet meeting, PM Modi praised both Naqvi and Singh for their contributions to the country during their tenure, implying that it was their final cabinet meeting.
There is also speculation that the ruling BJP will nominate Naqvi as its candidate for the upcoming vice presidential elections on August 6. The speculation gained traction after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly praised Naqvi for his role as a minister over the last eight years during today’s Union Cabinet meeting.
With their terms as Rajya Sabha MPs set to expire on Thursday, both ministers resigned to fulfil a constitutional requirement as they will no longer be parliamentarians on Friday.
