For the Women’s IPL, Viacom18 has earned media rights. The BCCI has received a 951 crore INR commitment from Viacom. This means that throughout the course of the following five years, the broadcaster will pay the BCCI Rs 7.09 crores for each match (2023-27).
The news represents a significant advancement for women’s cricket. Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, tweeted a confirmation of the information. The media rights for the Women Indian Premier League (WIPL) were put up for auction today.
The top 3 broadcasters and OTT platforms in the nation submitted their bids for the rights. Disney+ Star, Sony-ZEE Combine, and Viacom18 were the top 3 bidders for the WIPL Media Rights. The winner has been named by the BCCI, and it is Viacom18.
Earlier, the media rights auction was given a four-day extension. The best bidder, if not necessarily the highest, will win the rights after a closed bidding procedure. It is important to note that women’s cricket rights are being auctioned off for the first time in India. The outcome of the auction will establish a benchmark for India’s commercialization of women’s cricket.
No one wants to miss the bus since all three of the big broadcasters see women’s cricket as the “Growth Vehicle” for the game of cricket. The bid documents for media rights must be submitted on January 16. The deadline for the tender procurement was December 31.
More than ten parties, including Disney Star, Sony Network, and Viacom18, have chosen the tender document, according to BCCI officials. Also available is the tender for WIPL franchises. The first season of the WIPL 2023 is anticipated to run from March 3 through March 26.
Other than the top 3, Amazon Prime, FanCode, Times Internet, Google, and Discovery have also chosen the Tender Documents, according to a knowledgeable BCCI source.
