Saurashtra University, once considered the only A grade in the state is now among the B grade schools of the state. The reason is cited to be the internal squabbles between the authorities. Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Pethani is believed to have played an active role in this quality deterioration of the university. Allegedly, he has been squandering students’ money.

The Chancellor has spent Rs 7 lakh in the last 3 years only on what can be perceived as luxuries. This includes bedsheets worth Rs 75,000, dining tables for Rs 44,000 and around 100 kitchen items.

The chancellor has incurred expenses for around 100 kitchen appliances that include, Rs 11,210 for a trolley, Rs 44,000 for dining table, LED TV for Rs 49,800, Refrigerator for Rs 36,200, Washing Machine for Rs 37,570, Desk Table for Rs 36,351 and miscellaneous items Rs 4974.

In addition to this, three single beds worth Rs 33,040, storage with shades for Rs 18,880, visiting chair for Rs 30,000, glass door storage Rs 49,801, four wall clocks Rs 2600, Rs 1320 for iron, Rs 48,000 for low light storage table, Rs 25,393 for three pillows, sofa set worth Rs 76,725, Rs 39,434 for other 15 different items. All these expenses have been incurred during the year 2019 to 2021.

Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr Nidat Barot, alleged the cost incurred in the bungalow. He pointed out that the sum of Rs 1 crore was spent before the inspection of NEC’s team. However, when the university did not get its A grade back, one more question is being raised against the authorities. If the students’ money is being spent in the interest of the students is the question that is raised.
