The prototype Vande Bharat sleeper trainset has been manufactured and will soon undergo field testing. The Union Government stated on Friday that the successful completion of these trials will determine when the train will be rolled out.
In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha during the current Parliament session, Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “As of 02nd December 2024, 136 Vande Bharat train services, with Chair Car Coaches, are running across the Indian Railways network.”
However, trains are introduced over state boundaries following network requirements because the railway network traverses those boundaries. In addition, Indian Railways is continuously introducing new train services, such as Vande Bharat trains and their variations, contingent on operational viability, resource availability, and traffic rationale.
Today’s Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains are outfitted with contemporary comforts and services for long- and medium-distance travel. The Kavach automatic train protection system, the most recent fire safety standards compliance, crash-proof and jerk-free semi-permanent couplers and anti-climbers, a regenerative braking system for energy efficiency, a higher average speed with rapid acceleration and deceleration, and other unique features and amenities were highlighted by Vaishnaw.
