Gujarat: Navrachna School Faces Flak for Late Reporting of Covid Cases

| Updated: December 22, 2021 14:36

To send or not to send, remains a dilemma for most parents thinking about physical school for their wards. This Vadodra story might just be another reason to keep children at home till the definite end of the pandemic.

A class 8 student of Navrachna School in Sama tested positive on Sunday, Dec 12. His parents maintain that they were quick to inform school authorities and peers who came in contact with the boy during the past week.

However, the school authorities, reportedly intimated the concerned state department, only Wednesday. The school now faces flak for delayed sharing of information from the Vadodra District Education Office.

School principal Suprabha Menon issued a statement Wednesday stating: “On Sunday, December 12, 2021, we were informed by the parent of one of our students that the student and his family member tested positive for Covid-19. As a precautionary measure and with abundant caution, offline classes for that class have been suspended for four days. However, online classes continue. The child and his family member are home quarantined with mild infection and are doing well. No new cases have been reported. Teachers who came in contact with the case have tested negative.” Interestingly, neither does the student nor his close family members have any recent travel history.

However, after the DEO Navneet Mehta’s intervention, in-person class for that group of 28 students has been suspended for seven days, till Friday.

“We have received the DEO’s notice and are adhering to all guidelines. The school had suspended class for the batch for four days since Friday Dec 10, when the student last attended school. Now, with the official notice, we will remain closed for seven days,” the principal added.
