Since assuming office this month, the new United States Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has been touring several places and meeting people. In a recent video that featured notable people like businessman Anand Mahindra, actor Shah Rukh Khan, and cricketer Mithali Raj, he summarised his trip to Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
The first scene of the video, which Eric Garcetti posted on Twitter, features the US Ambassador listening to Hindi music in a car with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra. After that, he travels to Mumbai to see the Gateway of India, watches an IPL game, and meets Shah Rukh Khan at Mannat, the actor’s bungalow. Additionally, he went to Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College and the Jio World Centre.
We can also see Garcetti playing cricket with Mithali Raj, a former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, and getting her autograph on a bat. The ambassador went to Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
“This week, I spent time in the incredible cities of Ahmedabad and Mumbai meeting key stakeholders, discussing strategies, and enriching the longstanding partnership between the United States and India. Here’s a glimpse into some of my most memorable moments from the trip,” Garcetti wrote.
During his trip to Mumbai, Garcetti met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and relished vada pav. The US Ambassador to India said he was delighted that Shinde not just served him the popular street food, but insisted that he have it.
Eric Garcetti tweeted after meeting Shah Rukh Khan that they had a “wonderful chat” and talked about the “huge cultural impact of Hollywood and Bollywood across the globe.” The US ambassador also posted some photos of himself with Shah Rukh Khan clutching a yellow football, together with the actor’s wife Gauri Khan and manager Pooja Dadlani.
