Police in Dallas, Texas, said in a statement posted on Twitter that the shooting at a mall left at least eight people dead and seven others injured. The gunman was fatally shot by a police officer, according to Allen Police Department, and “there is no longer a threat.”
The Allen Fire Department has transported the injured to hospitals. Although, witnesses saw children among the victims, authorities did not immediately release information about them.
The Allen Police Department reported that a police officer responding to a separate call overheard gunshots at Allen Premium Outlets. “At 3.36 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, an Allen Police Department officer on an unrelated call heard gunshots at Allen Premium Outlets. The officer engaged the suspect and neutralised the threat. He then called for emergency personnel,” it tweeted.
Law enforcement was present at the Allen Premium Outlets scene, according to an earlier statement from the Allen Police Department. Furthermore, it urged people to stay away from the area and added, that an investigation is being conducted.
According to US Representative Keith Self, Allen Police Department is in complete control of the location. According to a Fox4 report, he also said that a shooter was “down” and that there were “multiple casualties.”
In a tweet, Self said: “We are devastated by the tragic news of the shootings that took place at the Allen Premium Outlets today. Our prayers are with the victims and their families and all law enforcement on the scene.”
According to the Fox4 report, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he is in touch with Mayor Fulk, DPS Director McCraw, and other state and local officials.
Abbott said: “Our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas tonight during this unspeakable tragedy” in a statement made public after the shooting. The shooting is the most recent instance of gun violence to occur in the United States.
