At least four people were killed and 20 others injured on Thursday following several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express train derailed in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to an Indian Railways statement, the incident happened at 2:37 p.m. near the Gonda Junction station. It said that four or five coaches from the train’s front derailed. The train was travelling from Chandigarh to Assam’s Dibrugarh.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak confirmed that at least four people had been killed in the tragic incident. Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar stated that over 20 more people were injured.
The district administration has been instructed “to take the injured to the hospital on top priority and provide them proper treatment,” according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath, who further added that relief and rescue operations must be conducted on a war footing.
A 40-member medical team with 15 ambulances was at the site of the accident, with additional relief on the way.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that the state government was in touch with the appropriate authorities.
