Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has been one of the hot topics on Twitter after an Instagram user claimed that the player had inappropriate behaviour with her, since Monday night.
An Instagram user purportedly posted private photos and audio clips of chats with Babar, which quickly gained popularity online. However, the charges have been denounced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as “unsubstantiated”.
“As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response,” PCB tweeted, in response to a tweet from Fox Cricket that has now been deleted.
The bulk of cricket fans are behind Babar, with Pakistani fans trending hashtags like #StayStrongBabarAzam and #BehindYouSkipper.
Babar Azam has faced a lot of scrutiny over his and the team’s recent performances on the cricket field. In a home Test series, the Babar-led Pakistan team had to watch as England defeated them by 3-0 despite their struggles on the field.
They played to a scoreless tie in the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Babar and company lost the three-match home ODI series against New Zealand, dealing them yet another setback.
