Indian-American photojournalist Pervez Taufiq took to Instagram and shared his terrible experience of being subjected to racial taunts from an American woman on an airport transfer bus.
On November 24, Taufiq was on a United Airlines transfer bus with his family when a woman made racist comments at him and his family.
“We just went through this, Mortified. Unbeknownst to us, this woman was making remarks and questioning our son about his Indian heritage while he was on the plane. She urged our son to “shut up” when we arrived in Los Angeles and boarded the transfer bus,” he posted on social media.
She began using racist epithets after he warned her that she was not allowed to speak harshly to his kids, stating things like, “Your family is from India, you have no respect for the norms, you think you can push everyone… You believe that to be who you are. You guys stink and are insane.”
United Airlines put the woman on a “no-fly list” after the incident.
The woman continued to be attacked and insulted and the video shows that she became hostile as Taufiq began to record her. She also gestured indecently towards the family.
“The remainder of this is what happened. I’m thankful United @united got her off the bus ultimately and a few fellow passengers stood up for us. Blown away, these types of people still exist. As photographers we have seen a lot of, but this is one we could have done without,” he further said.
