Call it the Kiran Patel effect or an increased vigilance on behalf of the security agencies, but nobody wants to take a chance with the VVIP security. Vibes Of India has learnt that the Ahmedabad Police asked the city Urban Development Authority (AUDA) to install view-cutters at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej area.
View-cutters are security agencies’ preferred choice, and are installed at VVIP residences, besides locations such as airports, highways, and defence properties. The AUDA has floated a tender worth Rs 25 lakh to install view-cutters at Shah’s bungalow. Amit Shah and his family live in New Delhi, but he is a frequent visitor to Gujarat. Be it for political work, other events or celebration of festivals, Amit Shah visits Ahmedabad often and prefers to stay at his Ahmedabad house.
It is important to mention here that there has been a breach in Shah’s security, when he travelled to Mumbai last year. A man had then wandered around Shah, posing as his security personnel at more than one event. Now, the Ahmedabad Police have specifically asked for view-cutters outside Shah’s residence. This will be the first instance of view-cutters being installed at a VVIP residence in Ahmedabad.
Vibes Of India understands that AUDA had floated the tender earlier for Rs 24.82 lakh. However, owing to non-availability of a contractor back then, the tender has been floated again. Generally, view-cutters are used for VVIP’s security or security of special VVIP buildings or airports. If a VVIP’s residence or space can be seen directly from a distant building, the direct view is obstructed by a view-cutter.
Usually, view-cutter systems are made in large laboratories, research institutes or VVIP residences. A barrier is created that prevents a view of the VVIP building. A VVIP building could be surrounded by high walls, but it’s dangerous if it’s seen from low-height residences around it.
AUDA CEO DP Desai said, “It (the security issue) was brought to the attention of the police. The tender was floated earlier, but no bidder was invited. The seller did not demonstrate interest. That’s why it has been tendered again.”
