The Story Behind Tulsi Vivah
The tale of Tulsi Vivah is rooted in Hindu mythology. According to the scriptures, a demon named Jalandhar, blessed with immortality due to his wife Vrinda’s devotion, wreaked havoc upon the gods. To vanquish him, Lord Vishnu deceived Vrinda, causing her to break her Pativrata Dharma, the unwavering loyalty to her husband. Heartbroken, Vrinda cursed Jalandhar to turn into stone, and upon realizing the truth, she immolated herself.
Moved by Vrinda’s unwavering devotion, Lord Vishnu granted her a blessing, transforming her into the holy Tulsi plant. He also declared that she would become his bride in the form of Shaligram, a sacred stone representing Lord Vishnu. Thus, the symbolic marriage of Tulsi and Shaligram, known as Tulsi Vivah, came into being.
