The NCLAT on Wednesday upheld the CCI’s order penalising Internet giant Google with a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore.
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) two-member bench ordered Google to follow the instruction and deposit the amount within 30 days.
The CCI order was modified by the NCLAT panel, which also included Member Alok Shrivastava and Chairperson Justice Ashok Bhushan. Court also dismissed Google’s plea that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had abused its authority in the probe.
The CCI fined Google Rs 1,337.76 crore on October 20 of last year for engaging in anti-competitive practices with regard to Android mobile devices. The Internet giant was also told to stop using a number of unfair commercial tactics by the regulator.
This decision was contested before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), an appeals body for the CCI’s rulings.
