In a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mahesh Vasava, founder of Bharatiya Tribal Party and son of veteran tribal leader Chhotubhai Vasava, on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Former MLA from Dediapada constituency, Mahesh had joined the BJP in March 2024, ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
The grapevine is that he resigned as his work was not getting recognition within the BJP.
In his letter to C. R. Paatil, Gujarat BJP president, Mahesh wrote that he is resigning from the primary membership of the party on Ambedkar Jayanti. He has also written that the tribals, Dalits, OBCs, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and other backward strata of the society will unite and end the ideology of the BJP and the RSS.
Gujarat BJP chief spokesperson Yagnesh Dave told Vibes of India that it appears that Mahesh Vasava’s some ambitions were not fulfilled in the BJP. In such a scenario, he should have spoken to the party leadership, Dave said, adding that resignations are not given on social media.
On the allegations of developmental works not being done in tribal areas, Dave retorted and said that in the tribal area from where Mahesh Vasava hails, the electorate has voted the BJP.
Manish Doshi, Gujarat Congress spokesperson, also reacted to Mahesh’s resignation. He held that the tribal leader’s resignation has once again exposed the BJP. Doshi said that Vasava saw the reality and resigned. The Congress leader observed that what Vasava has pointed out shows that the BJP is working against the interest of the tribals and dalits.
