TRB Jawan, Cops Held For Extorting Rs 60,000 From Bopal Couple

A TRB Jawan and two traffic police constables were booked for reportedly extorting Rs 60,000 from a couple who arrived in Ahmedabad after a vacation in Thailand and were on their way home in a cab at night.

The cops extracted the money by allegedly threatening them with legal action for roaming late at night on Friday.

According to reports, Milan Kela (33), a resident of Orchid Divine flats near Sobo Centre in South Bopal, his wife Priyanka, and their kid hailed a cab from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport to their house in Bopal.

Milan, who runs a factory, Marutinandan Proteins Packing Unit in Changodar GIDC, said in his FIR that the family was passing by from Ognaj toll booth on SP Ring Road when TRB jawan Vishal Solanki, and two cops, ASI Mukesh Chaudhary and constable Ashok Patel of A Division traffic police, took them to an unknown place and demanded money. Reports claimed that they said it was illegal to roam in the city so late at night.

Milan, according to reports, told the cops that Rs 10,000 was all he had. It only incensed the police who forcibly took them to an ATM in Ganesh Glory building in Jagatpur, made him withdraw Rs 40,000, and seized the amount. Reports added that they even forced Priyanka to transfer Rs 20,000 to the account of the cabbie and later took the money from him.

The cops threatened the couple with dire consequences if they revealed the episode to anybody. 

Milan filed a complaint of extortion and abetment against them. Chaudhary, Patel and Solanki were detained on Sunday evening.

This is the second recent incident of law enforcers booked for extortion. 

Earlier, an offence the Sabarmati Police registered a case against constable Aakash Patel and four others who extorted money from a businessman after kidnapping him.
