Four members of a family, including an infant, lost their lives in a fire that engulfed their residence in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat, on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Pawan Upadhyay (39), his wife Tithi (29), their 8-month-old daughter Dhyana and Pawan’s mother Bhavaniben (69).
The fire broke out around 3:30 am on the first floor of the family’s house on Aditya Road in Dwarka city, where five family members were asleep, according to Police Inspector TC Patel. The family members were unable to escape as they could not find the exit door after the power supply was cut off due to the fire.
Firefighters were alerted and quickly arrived at the scene. They discovered the unconscious bodies of the couple, their infant daughter, and the man’s mother on the first floor of the house. The victims were immediately transported to a government hospital, where they were unfortunately declared dead on arrival.
The man’s grandmother, who was sleeping on the ground floor, managed to escape the fire unharmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an explosion in an air conditioner due to overheating. Forensic experts have been called in to determine the exact cause of the fire. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
