Despite the Government of India’s call to make India “Malaria-Free” by 2030, Gujarat has a long way to go in the direction of achieving the ambitious goal. The health department has claimed that the state will bring the malaria cases to zero by 2027.
The Gujarat Health officials are collecting data, which reveals that about six lakh malaria cases were found, which is not very encouraging in relation to the targets set.
The government has taken up the spraying of pesticides at 45,355 households in 218 sensitive villages in 22 districts. The health department conducted a door-to-door, two-phase campaign where 1.31 crore houses were visited by 10,578 teams in the first phase. 1.63 lakh spots with mosquito breeding and 2.99 lakh people with symptoms of fever were found. In the second phase, 18,065 teams visited 1.43 crore houses, finding mosquito breeding at 1.65 lakh spots and 3.02 lakh people with symptoms of fever.
The health department has destroyed the breeding spots of the mosquitoes and enhanced the awareness campaign. The department is working hard to achieve malaria-free Gujarat before the set deadline.
