Sushmita Dev, a former MP from Assam’s Silchar had joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the month of August, after quitting Congress. On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Bannerjee’s AITC nominated Dev name to the Upper House of the Parliament.
In her first conference after joining the TMC, Dev had said, “I have joined the TMC without any conditions. It is because when a new relationship is built, it can be fostered only on trust and I have complete faith in Mamata Didi.”
She added, “It is not yet 24 hours that I have joined TMC but as I have travelled through the length and breadth of WB, I am extremely inspired by CM Mamata Banerjee’s vision and development in Bengal.”
Sushmita Dev is the daughter of veteran Bengali Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev. She was an MLA from Silchar between 2011 and 2014 and she was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014. The former All India Mahila Congress president had broken her 30-years-old ties with Congress before joining the grand-old party in WB. “My relationship with Congress was for 30 years, but because my father was a former Union Minister, we (my family and I) have known Mamata Bannerjee for 40 years.”
