Three workers died and three others sustained injuries in a fire triggered by a chemical leak at a warehouse in Navsari district on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 9 am as workers were unloading chemical barrels from a truck at a warehouse in Devsar village, Billimora taluka, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) B.V. Gohil confirmed.
“Three workers died, and three others were injured and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment,” Gohil reported.
The fire, which reportedly started due to a chemical leak from one of the barrels, quickly engulfed the truck before spreading to the warehouse. Five fire tenders from neighbouring talukas were deployed, and the blaze was eventually brought under control, officials stated.
Mamlatdar Jagdish Chaudhary explained that the initial leak led to the fire, which caused extensive damage. “The truck caught fire first, and flames spread within the warehouse, leading to the fatalities. Three workers suffered serious burns, while one worker remains unaccounted for,” Chaudhary said.
