At Rishikesh, Tourists From Rajkot Swept Away : Daughter, Father And Grandmother Drowned
A family from Rajkot on pilgrimage to Haridwar and Rishikesh has been the victim of an accident. Three members of the Gujarati family (father, daughter and younger) drowned in the Ganga at Phoolchatti, the confluence spot of the Ganga and Hanwal rivers in the Laxmanzula area. The accident took place while performing ceremonial Achaman in the Ganga, in which one stands in the holy river and take a palmful of its water to drink or sprinkle over head.
Six members of a Rajkot family living at Prem Colony, Gandhigram Police Station in Rajkot visited the pilgrimage site. After visiting the Nilkanth temple, all the family members were walking on the banks of river Ganga towards Phoolchatti and stopped fro achaman. 18-year-old Sonal’s feet slipped there. In an attempt to save her, her father Anilbhai (42) and maternal grandmother Taruben (52) were also swept away by the mighty Ganga.
Having suddenly lost three from the family at once in an accident, the family is in devastated state of mind.
