Tensions continue to simmer over contentious paintings displayed beneath the colossal idol of Lord Hanuman at the Sarangpur Temple. Discontent, followers of Sanatan Dharma have been questioning the depictions. Many Hindu organisations and devotees of Lord Ram have demanded their immediate removal.
Matters came to such a pass that one of the devotees smashed a black-coloured cloth on the murals. The police detained the person.
Saints and Hindu organisations have called for protests. Should all the paintings not be removed by September 4th, an intense agitation is expected.
Representatives of the Sanand Khata, which included revered sadhus and saints, convened a meeting. Subsequently, they decided to boycott the Swaminarayan sect. The representatives also declared they wouldn’t share the stage with Swaminarayan sect saints.
The Sarangpur Temple’s grand statue of Hanumanji is known as Kashtbhanjan Hanuman (the alleviator of sorrows). Below this deity, a series of paintings portray Hanumanji as a devoted follower of Swaminarayan Bhagwan. However, the Hindu community, both in Gujarat and across the nation, opposed the depiction.
They believe the portrayals are an affront to Lord Hanuman.
Swami Nautam Swami of the Swaminarayan sect emphasised that Hanumanji had, on numerous occasions, served Lord Swaminarayan. He asserted that the general public need not respond to the threats.
Swaminarayan sect devotees have been encouraged not to be disheartened by those who do not share their faith.
In the past, there had been similar instances of perceived insults to Sanatan Dharma, leading to a unified stance among saints.
