Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy extended a hand to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to him as “bada bhai (elder brother)” during the PM’s visit to the state on Monday. Reddy sought support from the Centre for the Development of Telangana, in contrast to the previous CM K Chandrashekar Rao, who had avoided several meetings with Modi.
Addressing the Prime Minister in Hindi, Reddy emphasized the importance of the Centre’s support for the progress of states, expressing his desire for Telangana to move forward with the help of the central government. He urged Modi to assist in projects such as the Metro rail and the regeneration of the Musi river, highlighting the potential for Hyderabad to contribute to India’s goal of a 5 trillion dollar economy.
Modi’s visit to Telangana marked his first after the Congress came to power in December. Reddy, while indicating the state’s ruling party, expressed a willingness to collaborate with the central government, signaling a departure from confrontational politics.
During his visit, Modi dedicated various projects, including the NTPC’s 800 MW (Unit-2) of Telangana Super Thermal Power Project and the electrification project of Ambari-Adilabad-Pimpalkhuti. He also laid the foundation stone for railway, highway, and power projects worth over Rs 7,000 crore.
Modi noted the significant turnout as an indication of the growing strength of the BJP in Telangana, emphasizing that the projects launched would contribute to the state’s development. He highlighted recent national initiatives and emphasized the BJP’s commitment to tribal empowerment, referencing the elevation of Droupadi Murmu as the President of India.
Furthermore, Modi criticized the previous Bharat Rashtra Samiti government, alleging corruption in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project and accusing the party of engaging in dynasty politics.
