Telangana CM Alleges PM Modi Diverting Investments to Gujarat Over Oppn-Run State

| Updated: November 15, 2024 17:18

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi of favouring Gujarat at the expense of opposition-ruled states, alleging that investments intended for these states are being redirected to Gujarat through the Prime Minister’s Office.

Speaking to a section of media in New Delhi, Reddy criticised what he described as the Prime Minister’s biased approach. “He is the Prime Minister of India, but Modiji is behaving like the PM of Gujarat,” he said, adding that PM Modi’s policies are impeding development in opposition-governed regions.

Reddy went on to criticise the “Gujarat model” of development, calling it a threat to national unity. He argued that significant investments from states such as Maharashtra have been diverted to Gujarat. Highlighting the need for cooperative growth, Reddy stated, “Achieving a $5 trillion economy is impossible without the support of opposition states like Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.” He labelled the Gujarat model as “dangerous for the country.”

The Telangana Chief Minister also urged Congress to consolidate its support around the Nehru-Gandhi family, framing the political landscape as a battle between “Modiji Parivaar versus Gandhiji Parivaar.” Referring to PM Modi’s recent remark that Telangana has become an “ATM” for the Gandhi family, Reddy responded by underscoring the historical sacrifices made by the Gandhis for India.

Positioning Telangana’s development strategy as a counterpoint to the Gujarat model, Reddy emphasised the importance of inclusive governance that offers equal opportunities for all. He warned against the long-term risks of divisive politics. “Winning might be possible with divisive politics,” he said, “but taking the country forward is difficult with this kind of politics.”
