Horrific details continue to emerge in the Kanbha human trafficking case. It has come to light that one of the accused, Ashok Patel, had informally adopted a minor girl to sell her off. He took advantage of the victim losing her parents when she was only 14. Deprived of a father figure, the gullible girl, unaware of the trap she was getting into, trusted Patel. A report claims that according to a friend, she even called Patel ‘papa’ who, she believed, filled her parents’ void.
It wasn’t long before his dark side became apparent to her. She was not only abused but also sold so numerous men.
For those who came in late, the victim was allegedly sold off for Rs 2.5 lakh as a bride to at least 15 men in the age group of 30-45 years since 2015.
But there are twists in the story – the report adds that the victim would often disappear.
“Patel had told Nisha she could stay with him as a daughter. One day she went to meet Patel and disappeared. A while later, she returned and said that ‘papa’ had promised to give her a cellphone. In 2015, she disappeared again,” the friend was quoted as saying.
One day, the friend received a call from a distraught man in Kalol who claimed he was married to her. He urged the friend to take her back. “I had Nisha’s custody from May 20 to July 2, 2022. However, on Rath Yatra day, she vanished again. She contacted me in the afternoon, claiming Patel had assaulted her,” the friend said.
Acting swiftly, the friend reached Hanspura Crossroads and rescued the girl. As of now, no investigation has been conducted into the human trafficking aspect, although the friend has reportedly said that Patel fractured Nisha’s legs and hands.
Ahmedabad Rural police reportedly busted the human trafficking network on May 11.
