A teenager in Gujarat died by suicide after not being able to tolerate inappropriate advances of sexual nature from her intermittently absent father. As per the complaint lodged by the mother of the deceased girl, she had complained to her about her father passing inappropriate comments to the young girl.
The girl’s mother married the accused Kamlesh Kashtwala of Mandvi, Gujarat 18 years ago. Kamlesh used to live in Oman for her business and was visiting his native once in 2-3 years. However, this time, he has stayed over for more than eight months.
The mother also informed that the girl was very much perturbed by the tone of vulgarity in the language of her father while addressing her when her mother was not around. The girl was disturbed that her father was eying her with obscenity. She had complained to her mother saying “ father is not a good man” however, the mother consoled the young girl by telling her that once he goes back to Oman, things will be ok.
After a fight with her father on the night of 19th August the girl had told her mother that her father is unbearable, and she would prefer to die. The next day, she hanged herself in the neighbour’s house. Mandvi police has arrested the father.
Apart from the moral decadence that society is witnessing, it is a glaring example of the helplessness a woman feels in India. These two women, mother and daughter are symbols of unheard cries of women who could not escape from their destinies.
Very sad
