Ever since Tahira Kashyap Khurana shared that she was diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) with high grade malignant cells in her right breast, her battle with the dreaded C-Word has inspired many. Immediately after that she had a mastectomy. Tahira, 39-year-old, on the occasion of World Cancer Day on February 4, says that many cancer fighters have told her that they were inspired by the way she did not let the cancer affect her life when she was diagnosed. “Yes, and it encourages me on many levels. Not every day is a good day, I admit. But when conflicts are also shared with random people, those days definitely get better. If I have been a source of power to people, it has worked in other ways too. I get a lot of power from them, it’s mutual, “says Khurana.
She also acknowledged the scar left behind in her fight with cancer, and used it to empower people on social media. Sharing a photo of her bare back with a large scar after her surgery in 2019, she wrote, “…I accept all my scars because they are my badge of honor. Happiness comes from accepting yourself in the true sense.”
Self-examination is important and early detection of breast cancer is not only treatable but also curable, added the writer-producer.
