A Delhi court on Friday remanded Bibhav Kumar, the primary accused in the Swati Maliwal assault case, in judicial custody for four days.
Kumar has long been Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s shadow, and their association goes back to the days when the Aam Aadmi Party had its beginnings.
Following his five days in police custody, Kumar was brought before Delhi’s Tis Hazari court this afternoon. The Delhi Police had sought four-day judicial custody for Kumar.
To re-create the crime scene, the police had brought him to Kejriwal’s residence on Monday. He was taken into police custody after being arrested on Saturday, May 18, at the Chief Minister’s residence.
The former chief of the Delhi Commission for Women and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal filed a formal complaint against Kumar on May 13 for allegedly assaulting her when she went to visit Kejriwal at his residence.
The official stated that the Delhi Police then added the charge of evidence destruction to the FIR.
Five days after the reported incident, on May 18, Kumar was questioned about why he was at the Chief Minister’s residence. The officer added that he was also questioned about his equation with Maliwal and why she was meeting Kejriwal at his home on May 13.
The CCTV recorder and Kumar’s phone that were recovered from Kejriwal’s residence will be sent for forensic examination. Currently, eight CCTV cameras’ hours’ worth of footage are being examined by the police.
