As soon as the news of the Morbi cable bridge tragedy came in, the BAPS volunteers of the Swaminarayan sect were one of the first to reach the spot and start helping in the rescue operations. The sect is known to be ready to help in times of calamity or disaster. The dedicated volunteers and the monks of the sect have always been at the forefront of rescue operations, be it floods or earthquakes.
The spiritual head of the organisation, Mahant Swami Maharaj, conveyed his condolences and expressed his sympathy for the families who lost their kin in the tragedy. He also directed a relief kitchen to be started at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple to arrange food for the military personnel and others involved in the rescue operations.
