A meeting was recently conducted between textile traders of Surat and officials of Indian Postal services regarding the delivery of textile goods across the country.
Surat textile is a giant industry that has a turnover of 65,000 crore rupees every year. It usually delivers goods worth 200 crores daily and nearly 350 crores during festivals and the wedding season.
The textile traders a few months ago during Diwali of last year also had a meeting with the Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway Mumbai Division, after which an agreement was signed in October, under which a special nonstop train was started from Surat to Kolkata and Delhi to deliver the textile goods across the nation.
The outcome of the meeting between the traders and the officials is said to have ended on a positive note and the services could start as soon as February. They have also sought that postal warehouses should be made in Surat.
Delhi, Patna, Kolkata among some other cities are being considered to get parcels via post. Currently, the traders use about 300 trucks along the Mumbai-Delhi line for the delivery of items worth 200 crore rupees. Hence, it would be beneficial for both.
