A 40-year-old auto-rickshaw driver in Surat was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his 18-year-old daughter by repeatedly striking her with a pressure cooker. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, reportedly after an argument over household chores and her use of a mobile phone, according to police.
The accused, Mukesh Parmar, a resident of Bharimata Road, attacked his daughter, Hetali, during a heated exchange. Police say Mukesh had been at home due to illness while his wife, Geetaben Parmar, was at work in a nearby mall.
Geetaben had asked Hetali to complete household chores in her absence, but when Mukesh noticed his daughter playing games on her phone instead, he lost his temper. In a fit of rage, he struck her multiple times with a pressure cooker, causing severe injuries to her head and body, police reported.
The couple’s 13-year-old son, Mayank, who was playing outside, rushed inside after hearing his sister’s cries and discovered her covered in blood. Mayank immediately called his mother, who hurried home and took Hetali to SMIMER hospital. Despite efforts, the teenager was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Based on Geetaben’s statement, Chowk Bazaar police registered a case against Mukesh Parmar under murder charges. He was arrested on Friday afternoon.
Inspector V. V. Vaghadiya of Chowk Bazaar police stated, “An argument broke out when Mukesh instructed his daughter to clean the house, and she ignored him. In a fit of rage, he struck her repeatedly with a pressure cooker, inflicting fatal injuries.”
