A Muslim citizen of Bangladesh, who was residing in Gujarat’s Surat city under a Hindu identity, was arrested by police on Sunday. The authorities found fake documents that the accused had used to reside in India.
According to authorities, the documents included an Indian passport, an Aadhaar card, a West Bengal school leaving certificate, a Qatar residency permit, and Bangladeshi identification papers.
As per the police investigation, the accused, whose real name is Minar Hemayat Sardar, arrived in India from Bangladesh in 2020. He created a series of fake documents after entering and took on the Hindu name, Shuvo Das. These fake documents, which were created in West Bengal, were used to get a passport from the Nadia district of West Bengal.
Using a fake passport, Minar travelled to Doha, Qatar, in 2021 and continued to work as a labourer there until 2023. He went back to Surat later the following year and started working as a construction worker.
The cops took Minar into custody after learning the information. While being questioned, he confessed to his crime.
The police have registered a case against him for infiltration and using forged documents. The authorities are currently trying to ascertain whether Minar engaged in any other illegal activity while he was in India.
Taking to X (formally Twitter), MoS (Home) Harsh Sanghavi alleged that the Bangladeshi Muslim man obtained his fake Hindu name certificate with the help of West Bengal government-aided Madarasa.
“A Muslim Bangladeshi has changed his documents with a Hindu name with the help of a fake certificate provided by the West Bengal government-aided Madarsa. This is a huge security concern. In the latest budget, the WB government sanctioned ₹5530 crores for Madarasa,” he stated.
In response to Sanghavi’s claims, TMC MP Saket Gokhale wrote in a post, “Home Minister of Gujarat needs to go back to school & learn how to read. The alleged certificate he’s posted shows the year as “2010”. The TMC Govt came to power in 2011.”
Earlier this month, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested four Bangladeshi nationals for using fake documents to get Indian passports.
Riyaz Hussain Shaikh (33), Sultan Siddhiaue Shaikh (54), Ibrahim Shafiulla Shaikh (44), and Faruque Usmangani Shaikh (39), were apprehended by the Juhu unit of the ATS following a tip, an official stated.
