The Gujarat state board exams are starting from March 11 and Surat students are gearing up for it. The city has seen a huge surge in the number of students who have registered for the exams this year. Around 1.91 lakh students have enrolled for the exams, which is more than 51,000 higher than the previous year. Surat had the highest number of students who appeared and passed the classes X and XII Commerce stream exams in the 2021-22 session.
The authorities have arranged 613 examination centres in various schools for the convenience of the students. The Class X exams will take place at 347 centres, the Class XII Commerce exams at 192 centres and the Class XII Science exams at 74 centres. The exams for classes X and XII Science stream will be held from March 11 to March 22, while the exams for Class XII Commerce stream will be conducted from March 11 to March 26.
Surat DEO Bhagirathsinh Parmar said, “We have taken care of all the aspects to ensure that the students do not face any problems in reaching the examination centres. We have chosen those schools that are not affected by the Metro railway work, which has caused some route diversions. We have also coordinated with Torrent Power and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited for uninterrupted power supply.”
Surat students had performed exceptionally well in the Class X board exams last year. Out of the 76,740 students who appeared for the exams, 76.45 per cent passed them – the highest in the state. The pass percentage of Ahmedabad was 66.32, Vadodara 62.24 and Rajkot 72.74. According to the data provided by the Surat DEO office, of the 1,91,330 registered students, 1.10, 970 will appear for the Class X exams next month, followed by 62,340 for the Class XI Commerce exams and 18,020 for the Class XII Science exams.
In the 2022-23 session, 1,39,886 students out of the 1,40,312 who registered appeared for the board exams.
