Virat Kohli’s seat in the T20s is being questioned yet and again by the experts after his falling performance. Former leads like Kapil Dev and Virender Sehwag are among others to question Kohli’s place, though captain Rohit Sharma has always stood by his colleague.
Sunil Gavaskar made his point by asking why it is it so that when Rohit Sharma does not score suns, nobody has an issue with it, or might it be any other player for that matter. But, everyone has an issue when it is Kohli. He further said that there is a saying that form is temporary, but class is permanent.
The 73-year-old said there is no need to panic yet as there is time left. He believes that there is a good selection committee that is thinking about it and there is enough time for them to announce the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Gavaskar is of the opinion that the ODI format is a good chance for Virat to revive his performance. He says that the ODI suits Kohli’s natural game and has arrived at the right time.
Though, reports reveal that Kohli might miss the first ODI due to a groin injury.
When asked about Rohit’s response in the press conference to India’s World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev’s comment on Kohli, he shared that sometimes there is a need for an outsider’s perspective. This is the reason there are foreign coaches, because with them, they carry a different perspective and outlook to the team. On the other hand, he also believes that very few people know about the environment within a team, because the discussions and strategies in the sports room are secret to the team. He said that such discussions should not leave the team as their disclosure can help the opposition team win. Both the ways, the target is the betterment of Indian cricket.
