“Do not be afraid to take risks along the way. You are blessed to be entering a world which is now increasingly risk friendly. Spend the early years of your career taking the right risks and make some bold bets on yourself. Test what you like and what you dislike. Take on roles that put you outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself,” is Falguni Nayar’s advice to management graduates.

Nykaa founder-CEO Falguni Nayar on Wednesday advised the young graduates to keep learning more instead of just chasing rewards. She was speaking at her alma mater’s 57th annual convocation.

It has been an incredible journey for this IIM-A alumnus who left her cushy job as a managing director at Kotak Mahindra Investment Bank. She has also served as a director of the bank’s institutional equities division, Kotak Securities.

Global consulting firm Ernst and Young has chosen her as “EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2021.” She will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award on June 9, 2022. Her e-commerce app Nykaa, has also won the “EY Start-Up of the Year” in 2019.

Pointing out that she had decided to start her latest venture Nykaa.com at the age of 50, Nayar added: “And remember, no matter what anyone says, it is never too late to start all over again. Decision-making will not always be easy, and often there will be no straightforward answer. So, trust your gut to an extent, it will guide you well.”

The convocation was held on-campus after a break of two years and this year a total of 584 students graduated from the IIM-A. Noted industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairperson, IIM-A Board of Governors, was among those present on the occasion.
