The Kshatriya community’s planned statewide protests against BJP’s Rajkot Lok Sabha candidate, Parshottam Rupala, hit a roadblock today. Gujarat Karni Sena President Raj Shekhawat, who had called for a siege of the Gujarat BJP Headquarters, Kamalam, was detained upon his arrival at Ahmedabad Airport from Jaipur.
Shekhawat had urged Kshatriyas to gather at Kamalam at 2 pm today, armed with saffron flags and sturdy sticks. However, his detention by the crime branch team at the airport has seemingly derailed these plans.
During his detention, Shekhawat reportedly had an altercation with the police. Tensions escalated when his turban was accidentally removed by a policeman while he was being escorted to the police van, leading to an outburst from Shekhawat.
Following his detention, Shekhawat was taken to the cybercrime office. Karni Sena members have reportedly begun to gather there, prompting an increase in security measures, including the closure of the office gate.
Meanwhile, despite a heavy security presence outside Kamalam, there appears to be no activity, indicating that the plan to besiege the headquarters has been unsuccessful.
Prior to his detention, Shekhawat recorded a video at the airport. In it, he warned the government and administration that he would commit self-immolation if prevented from reaching Kamalam. He urged his followers to join him in what he described as a “decisive fight” and assured them of success in their endeavor. However, with Shekhawat’s detention, the outcome of this protest remains uncertain.
